Digital Music Compositions

The following songs were produced as part of two Sound Technology classes, ST I: Introduction to Digital Music and ST III: Creating Sound on Ableton Live. All incorporate sampling as well as mixing strategies learned in Sound Studio Techniques I from American University’s Audio Technology program.

“Bad Weather Hike”

“Bad Weather Hike” was the final project for ST I. It tells the story of a tumultuous journey in four parts, using snowy footprints as a drum sound and narrative guide. Also made from Max’s love of the Appalachian Trail, the acoustic guitar section was later recycled in “Song For The Lakes of The Clouds.”

“Worm Factory”

“Worm Factory” was produced in ST III for Modulating Movements: sonic and kinesthetic interpretations of sculptural works, a collaborative event with the National Gallery of Art and GW’s Corcoran School of Arts and Design. The composition was inspired by Charles Sheeler’s painting Classic Landscape (1913) and incorporates the 0-Coast modular synthesizer. It debuted at the NGA in April, 2024 accompanied by an original dance by Brianna Kimmel.

“wearealladoredbythesun”

“wearealladoredbythesun” was originally produced in ST III  as a live performance for GW’s Corcoran School Modular on the Quad event. The song was expanded and recorded as the course’s final project. It was composed on the 0-Coast modular synthesizer and uses Ableton’s Session View feature for the improvisation in the second section.
