Goodnight Moon

Goodnight Moon is Home Remedies’ debut studio album. Recorded at Headroom Studios in Philadelphia and released on April 26, 2024, the album was co-written by Max Cohen and his songwriting partner Zach Basile. The songs focus on the band’s climate change anxieties, starting from a place of desperate panic and landing at a feeling of hope for a better path forward. The album is named after the children’s book Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, and the LP cover is inspired by the art of Clement Hurd. Goodnight Moon finds Home Remedies pulling themselves in different directions, leaning into their folk and punk influences, resulting in a varied sound united by a sense of gratitude that permeates the book and the album.

“Goodnight Nobody”

“Goodnight Nobody” was the album’s third single. Its sound was inspired by the work of Elliot Smith while the song’s name and several lyrical ideas were pulled directly from the pages of Goodnight Moon.

“Song for the Lakes of the Clouds”

“Song for the Lakes” of the Clouds is a slow burn anthem that closes out the first half of Goodnight Moon. Written about Max’s love of the Appalachian Trail and inspired by Fleet Foxes’ big arrangements, the song marks a turning point where the album begins to trend towards hope.

“Those Things”

“Those Things” was the album’s lead single and features Max on backing vocals. Max cobbled the music video together with clips from a cheap digital camera taken on their Goodnight Moon east coast Summer tour.

“I Am You Are”

“I Am You Are” is a duet heavily influenced by Max and Zach’s mutual love of 60’s rock, particularly that of the Beatles. For the solo, Max took inspiration from guitarist Buck Meek of Big Thief.
